Karen Fontana Young is special counsel in the New Orleans office of Kean Miller and practices in the medical malpractice defense, healthcare, automotive and commercial litigation groups. Karen’s practice involves the representation of physicians and healthcare providers, including medical malpractice defense, peer review proceedings, privilege disputes and contract negotiations as well as the representation of automotive manufacturers and importers in defense of products liability and warranty claims.
Karen is listed in Louisiana Super Lawyers, 2012-2018, and has consistently been named by New Orleans Magazine as a Top Lawyer in the Greater New Orleans region. She was selected for inclusion in the 2011-2013 editions of the Martindale-Hubbell Bar Register of Preeminent Women Lawyers and is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell. Karen was recognized as a Charter Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America.
Karen received her B.A., magna cum laude, from Catholic University of America in 1990, finishing in three years while participating in the University Honors Program. She earned her J.D., magna cum laude, from Tulane University Law School in 1995, graduating fifth in her class. She was awarded Order of the Coif and served on the Tulane Law Review Senior Editorial Board.
Following law school, Karen served as Law Clerk to the Honorable Justice Walter F. Marcus, Jr. of the Louisiana Supreme Court.
