Kean Miller Achieves Mansfield Certification for Fifth Consecutive Year
Kean Miller is pleased to announce that the Firm has achieved Mansfield Certification for 2023-24, the fifth year in a row. Mansfield Certification, awarded by Diversity Lab, is a year-long, structured certification process designed to ensure fair and equal opportunity to advance into law firm leadership positions. Kean Miller is the only Louisiana-founded firm to obtain Early Adopter status, which is reserved for firms that have achieved certification and remained committed for 5-6 years. To achieve certification, Kean Miller continues to maintain processes and procedures to track and analyze talent pipelines, monitor business development teams, and participate in candid knowledge sharing opportunities with law firms across the United States.
“Diversity and inclusion are foundational to our Firm’s culture. We are proud to once again be recognized by one of the premiere legal diversity programs as a partner that actively works to close gender and diversity gaps within the legal profession. We look forward to continuing our involvement with Diversity Lab and helping to create a level playing field for all by pursuing certification for 2024-25.” said
Erin Kilgore, Chair of the Firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Council.
Mansfield Certification measures whether law firms have affirmatively considered at least 30% of women lawyers, lawyers from traditionally underrepresented racial/ethnic groups, lawyers with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ lawyers for top leadership roles, senior-level lateral hiring, promotions into the equity partnership, and participation in client development opportunities.
Data shows that firms that remain committed and accountable to the Mansfield Certification process year-over-year are making substantial progress in creating inclusive talent practices and diversifying their leadership ranks. Kean Miller remains committed to taking measurable actions to ensure that the Firm’s processes are – and remain – inclusive.
About the Mansfield Rule
The Mansfield Rule is named for Arabella Mansfield, the first woman admitted to the practice of law in the United States more than 150 years ago. The concept of the Mansfield Rule and certification process evolved from the National Football League’s Rooney Rule of 2003 – an initiative that mandates the inclusion of diverse candidates in interviews for coaching and staff opportunities. At the 2016 Women in Law hackathon, the legal community, in collaboration with Bloomberg Law and the Stanford Law School, parlayed this concept into the Mansfield Rule.
