Tim Strickland is a trial partner in the Houston office of Kean Miller. He has practiced in Texas and along the Gulf Coast for over 33 years including a brief stint as managing partner in the Houston office of a multi-state maritime litigation firm. He joined the firm in 2021 and practices in the offshore energy and marine litigation, and emergency and incident response practice groups. He has been actively involved in several notable maritime cases, including the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and the Thunderhorse production platform salvage. In both cases, he was actively engaged with the client from the earliest opening hours of each crisis and then was involved with the emergency response center in Houston for months.
One of Texas’ most notable and respected admiralty lawyers, Tim has also litigated claims in state and federal courts including Jones Act, maritime and general personal injury defense, emergency response, premises liability, international salvage disputes, insurance coverage, energy construction disputes, and complex international business trade matters. He has represented many marine terminals assisting in dock damage and oil spill claims. Tim has sat for and passed his United Sates Coast Guard O.U.P.V. test to obtain a USCG Captain’s license.
Tim also is experienced in international arbitration matters. He successfully lead his team to a victory in New York City for his client, a large maritime salvage company, in an international marine salvage dispute. Up against four respected New York firms in their “home town”, Tim and his team battled for over 40 days of hearings winning an eight (8) figure unanimous award.
Tim is a Certified Mediator, one of the original arbitrators in the Houston Maritime Arbitration Association and an officer in the Coastal Conservation Association.
Following his passion for the outdoors, Tim leads the firm’s Wildlife and Fisheries practice group focusing on wildlife, fisheries and environmental issues. The practice group can provide assistance with federal and state agency issues, CWA, ESA, Magnuson-Stevenson, NEPA, MMPA, and APA issues.
