Senior Counsel

Chelsea Gomez Caswell is senior counsel in the Baton Rouge office of Kean Miller. She joined the firm in 2013 and practices in the labor and employment and litigation groups. She represents employers in a variety of labor and employment matters in state and federal courts and before the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and the Louisiana Commission on Human Rights (LCHR), including EEOC charges; discrimination, harassment, and retaliation litigation; litigation of disputes related to non-competition agreements; and wage and hour claims. Chelsea assists clients with employee handbooks, company policies, employment contracts, and in day-to-day counseling. She has extensive experience representing companies in the energy and petrochemical sectors. In addition to her labor and employment experience, Chelsea also represents clients in general litigation matters, such as premises liability, contract disputes, unfair trade practice litigation, and package litigation.

Chelsea is a 2020 graduate of the Baton Rouge Business Report's Executive Leadership Academy. She is listed in The Best Lawyers in America as a One to Watch from 2021-2025 and Louisiana Super Lawyers as a Rising Star for 2022 and 2023. Chelsea also received the 2024 Atlas Award from the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity.

Representative Experience
  • Supported the firm's representation of employers in defending against collective actions filed by former and current employees for alleged unpaid wages pursuant to the Federal Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
  • Supported the firm's representation of employers in defending against Louisiana workers' compensation claims before the Office of Workers' Compensation Administration
  • Supported the firm’s representation of several individual employees at preliminary injunction hearing defending against injunction sought by former employer relating to claims of breach of fiduciary duty and unfair trade practices
  • Supported the firm’s representation of employers in defending against EEOC discrimination charges and Federal Lawsuits filed by former and current employees pursuant to Title VII, the ADA, and the ADEA
  • Supported the firm’s representation of a major oil and gas company in oil field legacy by assisting with electronic and large-scale discovery efforts, including the collection, review and analysis, and production of massive amounts of company documents in the litigation context
  • Supported the firm’s representation of a major oil and gas company in oil field legacy cases involving Louisiana Act 312, as well as claims for alleged breaches of mineral leases, surface lease, and the Louisiana Mineral Code
Education

Chelsea earned her B.A., summa cum laude, from Louisiana State University in 2009. She earned her J.D, cum laude, from the LSU Law Center in 2013. Chelsea was Graduate Editor for the Journal of Civil Law Studies and Executive Vice President of External Competitions for the Moot Court Board.
