"As a Louisiana native who knows our regional energy industry well, I enjoy serving my clients by adding value to their proposed and ongoing projects."

Chris Peyton provides guidance to clients on all mineral and mineral-adjacent issues. He brings proven skill to advising on upstream oil and gas initiatives, complex mineral title issues, unitization, other regulatory matters and carbon sequestration projects. He also provides general operational advice to oil and gas operators and other general advice to businesses across Louisiana and the Gulf Coast.

Chris regularly manages mineral title examination projects for division order title opinions. He has represented numerous operators at public hearings before the Louisiana Commissioner of Conservation to obtain approval for the formation of drilling units, reservoir wide units, cross-unit horizontal wells, along with enhanced recovery projects. In addition, he is well-versed in dispute resolution and has navigated oil and gas companies through litigation involving royalty disputes, lease maintenance, subsurface trespass, and other areas of mineral, property, and environmental law matters. Among the few next-generation legal advisors for Louisiana oil and gas operators, clients and colleagues alike appreciate Chris’s responsiveness to their needs and commitment to their goals.

Another major component of Chris’s practice is performing mineral diligence for commercial real estate development. Chris routinely examines mineral title for solar projects, industrial facilities and other commercial real estate development to identify and mitigate risk associated with surface rights under pre-existing mineral rights.

In addition to serving energy industry clients, Chris represents various local businesses in business formation and negotiating, documenting, and successfully closing transactions.

Prior to attending law school, Chris worked as a landman in Lafayette. As a landman, Chris negotiated and acquired oil and gas leases and right-of-way agreements. He brings this insider perspective to his legal practice – skills that provide an advantage in terms of client resource conservation and frontline oil and gas industry know-how. Chris’s clients already know that he possesses a well-rounded understanding of what they do and how the law can support their everyday initiatives.
