Chris Peyton is an associate in the Lafayette office of Kean Miller. He joined the firm in 2023 and practices with the business, corporate and real estate groups. Chris focuses his practice on upstream oil and gas matters, unitization and other regulatory matters with the Office of Conservation, mineral title, carbon sequestration projects, and general advice to oil and gas operators. He also has experience representing local businesses and medical professionals in commercial transactions.
Prior to law school, Chris was a petroleum landman where he negotiated and acquired oil and gas leases and right-of-way agreements. His background as a landman has given him a valuable understanding of the everyday needs and concerns of the energy industry.
Chris is listed in The Best Lawyers in America as a One to Watch in Oil and Gas Law for 2024 and 2025. He was also named a 2024 Top Lawyer in Oil and Gas Law by Acadiana Profile.

- Representation of operators at public hearings before the Louisiana Commissioner of Conservation to create drilling units and to gain approval for other operations.
- Representation of oil and gas companies in litigation involving royalty disputes, lease maintenance, subsurface trespass, and other areas of mineral, property, and environmental law.
Chris earned his J.D./D.C.L. from the Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center in 2016. He earned his B.B.A., cum laude, in Economics from University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2012.
