James P. Doré
Of CounselJim Doré is of counsel in the Baton Rouge office of Kean Miller and practices in the firm’s litigation group. He works with clients in the areas of class actions, legacy oil field litigation, toxic tort, and environmental litigation, commercial litigation, gaming industry litigation, and medical malpractice defense. Jim has extensive litigation experience as lead counsel, and has brought over 95 cases to verdict in bench and jury trials.
Jim is an AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell and a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL). He is also listed in The Best Lawyers in America (Woodward/White) 2007-2025, being named Lawyer of the Year in Environmental Law for 2022, and in Louisiana Super Lawyers, 2018.
- Representation of a global energy client adverse to a large landowner in Calcasieu parish. The plaintiff asserted claims for $75,000,000 in compensatory damages and $225,000,000 in punitive damages for alleged negligence, breach of contract, unreasonable and excessive use of property, strict liability, and willful and wanton conduct in connection with historic oil and gas operations. After two and a half weeks of trial in May 2015, and several adverse evidentiary rulings against the client, the jury returned a verdict in favor of our client, which included the adoption of the client's remediation plan.

- Has represented physicians and other healthcare providers in healthcare law and malpractice claims for over 35 years
- Has negotiated numerous advantageous settlements for industrial and corporate clients engaged in critical litigation
Jim earned his B.A. from Louisiana State University in 1969. He earned his J.D. from the LSU Law Center in 1973. He was with the Louisiana Department of Justice from 1973 until 1976.
