Shiena Marie Burke is an associate in the New Orleans office of Kean Miller. She joined the firm in 2024 and practices in the casualty and mass tort litigation group. Prior to private practice, Shiena Marie served as a federal clerk in the Department of Labor’s Office of Administrative Law Judges. She also served as a clerk in the Louisiana Supreme Court, the Eastern District of Louisiana Federal Public Defenders Office, the Orleans Public Defenders Office, and with the United States Navy Judge Advocate General. She has experience in a variety of areas including Defense Base Act matters, insurance coverage, bad faith litigation, general liability, marine litigation, and workers’ compensation.
Shiena Marie was recently appointed to the Louisiana State Bar Association’s House of Delegates for the 22nd Judicial District Court. She was also selected by the Louisiana Bar Foundation as one of four contributors for the 2023-2024 Speak Out for Justice! Focus on Civil Legal Aid, a Louisiana Bar Foundation Education Committee program.
Prior to law school, Shiena Marie worked at Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) as a Research Assistant in the Executive Directors Hypoxia lab.
Shiena Marie earned her J.D., cum laude, from the Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 2019. She served as Admiralty Moot Court Team Oralist & Brief Writer, Loyola Maritime Law Journal Comment & Symposium Editor, Immigration Clinic Student Practitioner, and Asian Pacific American Law Student Association President. She received the CALI Award for the highest grade in Louisiana Property I and Seminar in Marine Pollution.
Shiena Marie earned her B.A., cum laude, in Government and Minor in Microbiology from the Nicholls State University Honors Program in 2015, where her thesis was titled “Bioethics and the Culture of Death.” She was selected as the 2013 Louisiana Sea Grant Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program Grant Winner for “Comparison of EROD activity to PAHs between two beach burrowers.” She won 1st Place in the Social Science Division at the 89th Louisiana Academy of Sciences. Shiena Marie served as the Student Government Association Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Sigma Sigma Sigma Philanthropy Chair, and was inducted into the Order of Omega Greek Honor Society.
